The 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 (Model A065) is the “G2” 2nd-generation successor to the Model A056 that won astounding acclaim and has been enjoyed worldwide. The new model keeps its fast F2.8 aperture and maintains 180mm at the telephoto end while achieving the world’s smallest size and lightest weight for its class. Maintaining the highest level of mobility, the optical design has been completely revamped. The precision combination of special glass including an XLD2 and LD3 lens elements attains uncompromising optical performance throughout the entire zoom range. With the 70-180mm F2.8 G2, TAMRON has pushed rendering capabilities and miniaturization to the limits—advancements that amplify the joy of capturing the world around you.

Fast and precise AF and improved tracking performance plus VC mechanism

The AF drive continues to employ the VXD4 linear motor focus mechanism, combining class-leading speed and precision, and enabling fast and accurate focusing. The precise calculations, reworked to update the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 (Model A067) and 150-500mm F5-6.7 (Model A057), have been applied to enhance tracking moving subjects, ensuring you never miss decisive scenes whether shooting still images or video. Moreover, the 70-180mm F2.8 G2 is equipped with TAMRON’s VC5 mechanism. This suppresses camera shake that tends to occur when shooting at the telephoto end, during close focusing, or when shooting in low-light conditions, enabling sharper results.

MOD6 of 0.3m (11.8in) opens new possibilities

Shooting at close distances that were possible only during manual focusing with the 1st-generation model is now possible when using autofocus with the 70-180mm F2.8 G2. TAMRON has succeeded in shortening the MOD to 0.3m (11.8in) at 70mm. At 70mm, the working distance is 12cm (4.7in) and the maximum magnification ratio is 1:2.6. This expands the possibilities for expression with a single lens.

Compatible with TAMRON Lens Utility™ software

The 70-180mm F2.8 G2 is compatible with the TAMRON Lens Utility software developed in-house by TAMRON. TAMRON Lens Utility lets users change lens settings, assign camera body functions, and update firmware when necessary. Users may customize functions for various still photography and videography shooting styles, for a more personalized and fulfilling shooting experience.
